Video: Fitness Challenge: Joe
The fitness challenge between Perry Olson, Joe Goldade and Tom Schrader may be over - but the results will last a lifetime. Now, Joe explains his experience and goals achieved during the 15 week challenge. (Joe Goldade, KX News) It all started here, with a bet that I could run a mile in less than 7 minutes. (Perry Olson) "How's it feeling?" (Joe) "Terrible!" That's when I truly realized how out of shape and unfit I was. I started the challenge carrying 65 pounds of body fat for a total body weight of 219 pounds. My first assessment score ranked me at 27 points, well below average. So, I set my main fitness goals of making healthier food choices, losing 20 or more pounds and living a more active lifestyle - which were all achieveable over the course of 15 weeks. Not only did I meet my goals, but I improved in every area of my fitness assessment thanks to cardio workouts 3 to 4 times a week for 45 minutes. Losing body fat was one of my biggest priorities and, in the end, turned out to be one of my biggest accomplishments. (Russell Gust) Joe Goldade: 195! (Joe) 195 pounds, that's 24 less than I started with and, even better news, 21 of the pounds lost were pure body fat. So, where did that rank me in the challenge? (Russell) ...and Joe Goldade is the winner. His overall assessment score improved by 25 points, so it was really close! (Joe) My beginning score of 27 transformed into an average score of 52: a 25 point increase. So really, we ALL won the fitness challenge, but a little competition helps for motivation! ..and Perry, here is your official invitation to re-run the mile with me in January. For KX News, I'm Joe Goldade. Joe also lowered his LDL "bad cholesterol" levels more than 13% and now has what is considered ideal blood chemistry.
