Episode 100世界の中心でアイを叫んだけものThe Beast That Shouted Love at the Heart of the World After months of planning, I am very glad to say this is the 100th episode of Mixtapes For Heartbreak. I didn't ever think I'd get this far when the show started back on September 2nd, 2005, but I've already exceeded my expectations in that regard. As it is a time for reflection, I can't help but wonder how doing Mixtapes, if at all, has made me a better person. Maybe it's taught me patience. Maybe I've learned how to do things I would never have thought possible. Regardless, the sun has yet to come up, so let us celebrate, and hope that when the sun does rise, it brings with it a new tomorrow. Podcast listeners, your patience over these past nine weeks has been extremely appreciated. I would be remiss if I did not reward you in some way. There will be a new episode added to the podcast feed every three days from now until the time I run out. Seeing as the last recorded episode was #109, that episode should be out on the 26th of October. Not a bad deal at all. You'll find out why it took so long over the coming weeks. I give my sincere thanks to everyone who listens to this show week in and week out. /Playlist/ 「約束」(Promise) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「冬の花火」(Winter Fireworks) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) This is the Dream of Win and Régine by Final Fantasy Cruel Angel's Thesis (Director's Edit II) by 林原 めぐみ, 宮村 優子 & 三石 琴乃 (Megumi Hayashibara, Yuko Miyamura & Konoto Mitsuishi) 「朝影」(Morning Shadows) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「Time Suspense II」by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) Dragonslayer by Podington Bear 「少女の檻」(Girls' Prison) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「舞い落ちる不安 Piano Ver.」(An Alighting Anxiety) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) Told You So by Guggenheim Grotto 「2 Steps Toward」 by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) Get Your Head Straight by Boys Night Out 「生まれたての風」(A Newborn Wind) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「真琴との別れ」(The Farewell With Makoto) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) Persimmon Tree by Midnight Movies 「Flower Dramatic Ver.」 by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「Little Fragments」 by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「風を待った日」(The Day When I Waited For The Wind) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「ハレ晴レユカイ」(Sunny Sunny Fun) (Jump Mix) by Podington Bear 「残光」(Afterglow) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 「Florescence Painful Ver.」 by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) Soul Meets Body by Death Cab for Cutie 「夢の跡」(Remains of a Dream) by 折戸伸治 & 麻枝准 (Shini Orito & Jun Maeda) 次回: 夢Next: Dream.

Episode 97退屈Boredom A boring, mediocre show for a boring, mediocre week. I tried to liven things up by making the music as upbeat and danceable as possible; there's nary a depressing song in the bunch. I also played a bunch of artists that I had not before, though by halfway through, that theme found its end. The only thing potentially not boring were the preliminary announcements for the lineup of the one-hundredth episode. I won't spoil too much, but based off the previous 100 episodes, it has an appropriate title. I most likely will not include that title in the feed entry for Episode 99. /Playlist/ Stuck for the Summer by Two Hours Traffic Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi D.A.N.C.E. by Justice Nicole's Song by Gypsophilia One Kiss Don't Make a Summer by Lucky Soul White Gold by Metric 「the WORLD」 by ナイトメア (Nightmare) Accidents by The Prize Fighter Inferno The Sound of Settling by Death Cab For Cutie Wonder Happens by Podington Bear 次回: 憂鬱Next: Melancholy.

Episode 92悲哀Sorrow What forces us to shed our relationships and move on? Is it the want for success? Is it the ultimate human imperative? Is loneliness and longing the heart's way of telling us that destroying those relationships is wrong? No one knows, and thus there will never be an answer. Episode 91強さStrong This week's title is slightly ironic, as I am sick. I can assure you that the irony is not lost on me. The title actually refers to the resolve that one needs in difficult situations, and with exams soon upon us, that's exactly what most of us will need. However, in order to know strength, one must also know weakness. I can't believe no one has yet asked me why I don't take the news update out of the podcasts. I leave it in because it's as much part of the show as the talking or the music. It's a way to know what's happening in reality at the time. It is the one way I treat Mixtapes as a radio show first and a podcast second. I'm not quite sure where else to draw the line. I'm not good at deciding things. I never have been. All I can do is make a choice and hope it's the right one. That's all any of us can do, in the end. It has come to my attention that the show is being shuffled around on CHMR in anticipation of changes to their summer schedule. I have been assured that the show will have a new permanent location in the next few weeks. /Playlist/ Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi Four Winds by Bright Eyes Your Ex-Lover Is Dead by Final Fantasy FM (Marsden Jules Remix) by Junior Boys Pattern Against User by At The Drive-In Positive Tension (Jason Clark Remix) by Bloc Party Days That Are Over by Sondre Lerche The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton by Beck 次回: 悲哀Next: Sorrow.

Episode 90秒読みCountdown Would it make me feel like Phil Keoghan to claim that the race was on? Yes, yes it would. On this episode: two stories, a lot of dialogue, some rambling, some mumbling, and six tracks, just like last week. I don't know why I've decided to start speaking more in the episodes; again, the concept of catharsis is possible, but maybe I'm unintentionally opening up, which would indeed be a dramatic change. What are your thoughts on the "new" format? It'll probably stick around until what I've dubbed "the exam arc" is over, then it's back to normalcy. That's right, these exams deserve an entire arc, not just a single show. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I use the entire "season" and "arc" concepts. I would suppose that it makes sorting the show more convenient, but that's what the volumes are for. Maybe it's an attempt to make things seem fresh and exciting every six months. Though, if I had an explanation for everything I had ever done, that would be following a story; that wouldn't be life. If only we all couldn't be so selfish. /Playlist/ Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi I Will Be Grateful For This Day, I Will Be Grateful For Each Day To Come by Bright Eyes Seven by Sunny Day Real Estate Phase One: The Epidemic by The Fullblast All You Want To Be by Ten Second Epic Another Density by Ten Second Epic A Lack of Color by Death Cab For Cutie 次回: 強さNext: Strong

Episode 89殴打Strike I wrote this feed on the bus on the way home. This isn't particularly relevant, but it does sort of tying into the overarching narrative of the show, one of the most dialogue-heavy in recent memory. Despite this, I still manage to play six songs. I think it's possible that all the spoken word content came from my unwillingness to play stuff I had already played before. Either that, or I had a lot to talk about this week. I like nights like this; where there's just enough fog so that you're not quite sure what's around the next bend, and everything is cool and calm, in stark contrast to the warm summer nights we've had to put up with recently. Like winter, I am ambivalent towards summer. There are a few of callbacks to early Season Three episodes. I'm not quite sure why; these events happened over eight months ago. Perhaps I just wanted to include additional clarification or additional commentary, as I do in this episode. Also referenced is my Owen Pallett interview, which was more of a spur-of-the-moment reference. Perhaps I'm unintentionally trying to include callbacks to older episodes to please die-hard fans, much like Arrested Development, though I'm not quite sure any die-hard fans of Mixtapes exist. Or any fans at all. My lack of feedback leads me to believe that all my fans are terribly shy, but that would just be leading into delusion. Is it okay to want something to be true, even if, in all likelihood, it is not? In other words, is it all right to delude yourself if that delusion brings happiness, or are such people just too weak to look at the real world and accept it for what it is? To tie into last weeks feed question, the people all around me are all individuals with their own hopes and dreams. Are all of them equal, or are the privileged looked upon? What is weakness? What is strength? /Playlist/ Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi No Heaven by Champion Back to the Future III by The Superfantastics National Anthem of Nowhere by Apostle of Hustle Sleepwalk Capsules by At The Drive-In "The Earth Is Clearly Round" by ARCS Hotel by Broken Social Scene 次回: 秒読みNext: Countdown.

Episode 88ポヂングトンPodington I dislike when it rains on Saturdays. When people are finally given time to relax, they cannot grasp it because the weather has turned for the worse, forcing them to remain inside and waste their precious time. Friday, I finished watching Schindler's List. I was not able to cry at the end of it. Does this make me less human than others? Is humanity subjective, or is it something tangible? It may be rather existentialist of me to think that all lives are equal, that any given life is no more important than that of another. This is true for some, but not for all. In forging relationships, we give peoples lives meaning. Therefore, the meaning of a person's life is equal to the sum of the meaning of their relationships. What of people who cannot keep relationships, or never had any to begin with? Do their lives have any meaning? Is it even possible to go through life without some sort of relationship? Do the lives of the people we care about have more meaning than those of those we don't know? I am reminded of Mersault in Camus' L'Étranger, and that he was ultimately killed for not showing emotion. Does a lack of emotion make us less human? This is a theme show. My last attempt at a theme show (Mixtapes #33: A Revolution Show) was horrible, because I was naive. If I could travel back, I'd tell myself not to attempt to waste my time trying to endue episodes with any kind of emotion, feeling, or meaning. Take from this show what you will. Hopefully, you enjoy it. I've added all of the feed entries into a single .xml entry. Please keep in mind that only the most recent shows will be available. I'm currently working on a solution to this problem. /Playlist/ Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi Chainlink Melody by Podington Bear The Speed of Life by Podington Bear The Spook of Life by Stackington DJ Dumb Luck (Podbear Mix) by Dntel You Wasted My Time While I Was Timewasting by Podington Bear I See You by Sissy Neon Kights by MSTRKRFT So This is Goodbye by Junior Boys Bare Walls by Share 次回: 殴打Next: Strike.

Episode 87優美Grace Tonight, during the show, I could hardly think. Leaving, I was disappointed with all of the traffic in the suburbs. Usually, on clear, warm nights, the suburbs are barely populated, with only the occasional car or other person. It's during that time that is the best to think. Tonight, the downtown core was barren, though the lights of automobiles shone through what little darkness there was. I hoped there would not be many people on the bus; I was wrong. I just like to be alone. I could hardly think going back home. As the chilly wind blew and the cold rain fell, getting home and into my warm bed was all I could think about. The simplest comforts are oftentimes the most wanted. /Playlist/ 「アルミナ」(Alumina) by ナイトメア (Nightmare) Cruel Angel's Thesis (TV Size) by Yoko Takahashi Mid Laugh by Sylvie Follow the Seagulls that Follow the Ferries by Fall Horsie All My Best Friends are Metalheads by Less Than Jake Sentencing by Boys Night Out The Hoard (Demo) by As Cities Burn Suck It Up, Princess by Ten Second Epic 1-800-PODBEAR by Podington Bear Cellphone's Dead by Beck 次回: ポヂングトンNext: Podington.
