Avec ce programme magnifique, cest très facile de convertir un fichier QuarkXPress au fichier InDesign. Dabord, nous allons à lemplacement du fichier et nous louvrons pour voir comment ca ressemble. Donc, ici cest le fichier QXP, nous louvrirons plus tard pour voir la précision de la conversion. Maintenant nous allons ouvrir InDesign. Juste aussi facile (comme) que Fichier - Ouvrir dans InDesign vous sélectionnez simplement un fichier QuarkXPress et le fichier est converti dans quelques secondes. Le programme (convers) convertit tout automatiquement pour vous. Comme vous pouvez voir cet outil peut vous économiser beaucoup de temps. Maintenant, nous allons comparer le fichier Quark avec le fichier InDesign. La conversion est surprenament complète, mais normalement un peu daméliorations sont nécessaire. This cool and helpful tool can help you to create shortcuts on your computer, saving you lots and lots of time searching the right folder and preventing placing files in the wrong folder. With Default Folder X running in the background you are able to make shortcuts to folders and create hot keys to make them accessible at all times. Wether you are in your finder or within a application window; the shortcuts or visible symbols make it really simple to open the right folder in no time. Installation is a matter of double clicking the installation icon after which you can easily add folders and shortcuts via the System Preference window. Grafishce sector beurs. Op 10, 11 en 12 september was Marzware aanwezig op de Grafi+Sign beurs. De beurs werd gehouden in de jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Markzware stond op deze beurs, omdat de producten van belang zijn binnen de grafische sector. Daarom probeerden we mensen vooral te overtuigen van de kwaliteit en gebruiksgemakkelijkheid van onze programmas. Flightcheck Professional kan bijvoorbeeld misdrukken voorkomen, omdat het de bestanden controleert op fouten. Hierbij kan de gebruiker een eigen set aan eisen maken, waardoor het controleren snel klaar is. Het programma is dus zowel tijd- als geldbesparend. Daarnaast kunnen de converteerprogrammas Q2ID (QuarkXpress to InDesign), ID2Q (InDesign to QuarkXpress) en PUB2ID (MS Publisher to InDesign) het samenwerken binnen en tussen bedrijven vergemakkelijken. Op donderdag 11 september was de beurs het drukst bezocht en kwamen mensen vanuit Europa kijken naar producten van de grafische industrie. Zo stonden er bedrijven met printers, die op papier, doek, stickers en platen konden printen. Video demonstration of how FlightCheck can effectively be used for comparing two documents. Plus, several general preflight tips. Transcript: Hello, this is Rick from Markzware. Most of you know FlightCheck as the professional tool to check more than 50 file formats, but today I would like to show you a function of FlightCheck that you might not know of which is the use of this application to compare documents. On my desktop I received a folder containing documents and illustrations. We see illustrations, but also TWO Quark documents, Rome 1 and Rome 2. Both time flags are set to 3:45 PM and the size of the files don't give me any conclusive information either, which makes it difficult for me to see which document should be used for production. Opening the files doesn't help me too much either for both documents look the same on the screen. Going through the pages there is really not a lot that would determine what document to use for output. Of course there are different ways to figure this out. Manually for instance. We go back to our document folder, select an image and open it in PhotoShop. If we go to the Image menu, we can check the color mode, which in this case is CMYK and thus correct. From the Image Size window however it is more complicated. We see the resolution of 72 dpi, but the image is pretty big; it could be scaled in Quark... Further more, if this document would contain several hundred images, this is not the way to check your document. So, what do we do? We use FlightCheck! We go back to the folder containing the documents and, instead of selecting only one document as we are used to do, we now select both Quark documents and drag them both at the same time to the FlightCheck icon. As we are used working with FlightCheck, the application starts immediately. It first checks Rome 1, directly followed by Rome 2. The result is a combined Result Page in FlightCheck. When we take a closer look at the Result Page, we for instance see that the document Rome 2 contains Non CMYK colors. We also see that RGB images are used in Rome 2, but when we look at the Hairline Warning, we see that FlightCheck reports both Rome 1 AND Rome 2. When we take a look at the individual reports of both documents, we clearly see that Rome 1 basically has no errors and only shows the warning for the use of a hairline, where the document Rome 2 contains a lot of errors. It's very clear that the document Rome 1 is the document I should use for output. Knowing this we switch back to the finder to mark both documents; Rome 1 is the right document, Rome 2 should not be used, clearly marked by the Green and Red coloring. Grafische bestanden vergelijken met FlightCheck Professional van Markzware. Hallo ik ben Arnold Roosch van Markzware. De meeste van u kennen FlightCheck professional als de professionele applicatie die meer dan 50 bestandsformaten controleert. Maar vandaag wil ik het hebben over een functie van FlightCheck die mischien wat minder bekend is en dat is het gebruik ervan voor het vergelijken van documenten. Ik heb hier op mijn bureaublad een map gekregen met bestanden daarin. Als we kijken naar die map dan zien we daar verschillende bestanden in maar ook 2 quark documenten: Rome_1 en Rome_2. De tijd staat allebij op 15:45 en de grootte verschilt ook niet erg veel. Het gene wat mij het moeilijk maakt om te zien welke nu de juiste is. Als we ze openen zien we ook op het beeldscherm geen verschil. We lopen even alle pagina's door maar ook hier zien we niet welk document nou het juiste document is. Nu kunnen we daar natuurlijk op verschillende manieren achter komen. We kunnen bijvoorbeeld een illustratie openen in photoshop, dan naar image, mode kijken. Nou, die staat CMYK dus dat is goed. Dan de image size bekijken, nou, daar zien we een groot formaat met 72 dpi maar mischien is het document wel geschaald in Quark dus dat zegt eigenlijk ook niet alles. Bovendien als we een document zouden hebben met een paar honderd illustraties is dit ook niet de juiste werkwijze natuurlijk. Dus wat doen we? We zetten FlightCheck in. We gaan terug naar de finder en openen de map. Hier selecteren we nu niet 1 document wat we normaal doen met FlightCheck maar we selecteren beide documenten. En slepen die tegelijkertijd op het icoon van FlightCheck. Zoals we gewend zijn van Flightcheck gaat die er gelijk mee aan de slag, controleert eerst het ene document en vervolgens direct het tweede document en geeft uiteindelijk het resultaten scherm voor allebij de documenten in 1 keer. Wanneer we kijken naar dit gecombineerde rapport, zien we bijvoorbeeld dat in Rome_2 non CMYK pantone colors zijn gebruikt. En in Rome_2 zijn ook RGB images gebruikt. En de pagina's worden ook aangegeven. Maar als we kijken naar de hairlines dan zien we dat die in Rome_1 en Rome_2 wordt gebruikt. Dus de waarschuwing voor de hairline is voor allebij de documenten. Kijken we vervolgens naar de individuele rapporten van de beide documenten dan zien we dit inderdaad terugkomen. Hier kunnen we tijdelijk zien dat Rome_1 eigenlijk geen errors heeft behalve dan die ene hairline waar een waarschuwing op zit. Als we kijken naar Rome_2 zien we dat daar heel veel fouten in zitten. Het is dus duidelijk dat we Rome_1 als juist document moeten zien. Met deze wetenschap op zak kunnen we nu natuurlijk terug naar de finder en gelijk even onze documenten markeren. Rome_1 is de goede, Rome_2 is de foute. Op deze manier duidelijk gemarkeerd door een groene en een rode kleur. Erg handig om te weten dat FlightCheck u ook hiermee kan helpen. This is for creators, designers, layout artists, prepress operators, publishers and printers alike. Part of what you will learn is below. The Ground Controls are the heart of FlightCheck and with a little time and effort making the right settings, you will gain maximum profit of its possibilities. As you can see, there are a lot of rules FlightCheck can check for and without going over them all, you see that we have tabs for File settings, colors, pages, trapping, page setup, fonts, print settings and of course a huge tab for images. To set a rule to either give you a warning or an error, you simply click on it. One click will give you a small dot; FlightCheck will give you a warning if in this case an ICC profile is found. A second click will show a big dot; giving you an error if the item is found. A third click will turn the rule off. Please note that the rules you just saw where the rules for checking Open File Types like InDesign, Quark, Illustrator, et cetera but since checking PDF files is something totally different from checking Open Files, Markzware created special Ground Controls for checking PDF files. Just go to the File menu, select 'Preflight Mode' and choose the PDF set of the language of your choice. As you can see only errors -- in red -- and warnings -- in blue -- are present here. Clicking on the arrow will reveal the file names of the elements used in the document that where flagged, in this case it will show the elements that contain a resolution that is out of range. FlightCheck will provide you with the name of the element, the document name in which the element is present and the page on which the element can be found in the document. The same information is present for the other rules that where flagged; the element name, the file name and the page. PERFECT! Let's have a look at the image section. On every element we are now able to find a lot of information. Here you find the page number where the element can be found, the status, the type and color modus. As you can see there are two columns that display resolution. The DPI column shows the original resolution of the element. Due to scaling however, the DPI-value changes resulting in the output value. Since this is the most important value, Flightcheck will keep a close eye on this value. If you still need more information than displayed in this window, just double click on one and find a new window providing you ALL information FlightCheck could retrieve for you. In this window you'll find information from the Creator, the Version, the size and scaling to the name of the ICC-profile if used. It will also provide a preview of the illustration if available and shows you all colors and fonts that came with the image. It is even possible to open the image from this window. The Collect button hands you the great feature of collecting ALL elements needed to guarantee a good output of your file. It enables you to set the location of the collected file. You can set ZIP-compression to prevent file corruption during digital sending your files and choose any name for that compressed file, leaving the original file name in tact and it will provide you information on the total amount of files that will be collected and the size of the uncompressed file. Fixing bad or corrupted Adobe InDesign files (error 5, etc) has been more requested than we even thought. With only a few blog posts and a couple films highlighting how we recover the bad files, we have had many send in their documents! Keep emailing them to us on david AT markzware . nl Hi, I am Arnold Roosch from Markzware Europe and I would like to give you an update on our last podcast about repairing flaky InDesign files using both Quark, Markzware's InDesign to Quark XTension or ID2Q for Quark and Markzware's Quark to InDesign conversion Plugin or Q2ID for InDesign. We received a huge number of positive reactions on our first videocast on this subject after which we asked you, as InDesign users to send in your flaky InDesign files. To be honest; we did not know there where that many corrupted files out there! We are still receiving 1 or 2 corrupt files per day and using the quite onorthodox way of salvaging the file, we where able to salvage about 90 to 95 percent of them. Since our Research and Development department is working hard on a solution to prevent InDesign files from getting permanently damaged I hereby ask you to keep sending us your flaky files. We will try to salvage your file, send it back to you and use it to create you a product that will put an end to InDesign files getting corrupt that took you hours to create. Markzware User Story -- This spontaneous interview all started on Friday the 16th of May. The sun was shining and business was good at Markzware Europe. Then we got a call. A designer wanted to purchase FlightCheck. No problem, we normally just pass them through too a local resellers, but Mr. Paul de Boer (that is his name) said no, no- please, I live down the street in The Hague and will bike over and pick up the DVD of the software. OK, "the coffee stands ready" (A Dutch saying), we agreed, bending the rules for this time- after all it is not every day that someone picks up their order via bicycle. Riding your bike is a mainstay in Holland and many of us use them to get to work every day, rain or shine. I mean even 80 year olds and the likes. After talking to Paul, it was clear that he had a lot of prepress and design experience. As a matter of a fact, he just was done with arguing with the printer over his latest InDesign job- a 100-page art book, which demanded perfection and quality (of course). The printer wanted a cPDF or Certified PDF. But Paul knew from experience that delivering a closed up PDF, made editing more difficult- especially on a detailed, multi-page book. Yes, PDF editors like PitStop can do some things, but this book had no room for error and too many times small edits in a source or native files become large nightmares in a PDF. Even with Paul's experience, errors do happen. He knows that and it was this reason he cruised over to grab his FlightCheck. (ICC Profiles were a particular concern for him- thus colour in general.) What was interesting to add to this story, is just yesterday a large Dutch printer was telling us how the market was moving away from demanding only PDF files and that they had no problem with this, due to the many last-minute issues. Many creatives or designers prefer to send in the native Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or QuarkXPress files- this way perfection (and easy editing) is far more likely to go off without any issues. PDF is great, it has its place, but many still prefer to work in and deliver the native, source file. In this interview Paul goes over these facts, talks more about his business and background.
