Just & Kannisto & Landgreen & Matisse
from nordark on October 28, 2005

Matisse the exhibition is interactive, well-curated, and opened my eyes to the contemporary art scene here in Scandinavia. An artist I'm looking forward to seeing more of is Aino Kannisto. Her staged photography, always using herself as model, has a quietness and a sense of a frozen moment in time, that I found absolutely fascinating. Loaded with symbolism too. See the video for some glimpses and a few comments. Music is by Iain Ballamy, "Restless". My applause to the curator Tine Nygaard, for creating a wonderful, new-thinking exhibition. Which Copenhagen architectural gem, drawn by Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen, is this? You either have to be really into architecture, or a Copenhagener to answer this one, I guess! But it's a special picture to me, taken early in the morning in the beginning of this October. And I have, in fact, given you two very useful hints already. Last week's photo was of Maximillian Ward, Alexander Ward, and Anders Clerwall - amazing vloggers - in Vondelpark, Amsterdam.

Jonathan Meese and Tal R: Mor

Last Saturday I went to the opening of Jonathan Meese and Tal R's exhibition "Mor", or "Mother" in English, at the National Gallery here in Copenhagen. I will start covering more of these types of events, even though I must apologize for the terrible sound quality. The exhibition was very interesting; one steps into the piece itself, a huge pink fortress, and is bombared with visual impressions; photographs, collages, sculptures, texts scrawled all over the walls and so on. I had difficulties experiencing it as a whole since there were so many people (see the video), so I will return later and see it again on Friday - more on the art then!

Impressions of Amsterdam

VlogEurope has been absolutely fantastic! It feels very strange to be back in Copenhagen after a weekend like this; it has been incredibly inspiring, enlightening, educative, and meeting all the other attendees was out of this world. Videoblogging challenges the concept of how well one actually knows a person; never before have we been able to communicate as directly while being so far away from each other; meeting in real life was, in that way, really something extraordinary. I was only able to attend the sessions of Saturday. These were Frank Carver's presentation of the sustainability of videoblogging, Graham Walker's presentation of editing techniques and some general discussions about videoblogging. Frank's brought up a topic which is very important, and certainly needs to be discussed, and Graham's really inspired me to spend more time on my editing, and explore different techniques. Thanks to both of you! Even though I felt that I personally did not had anything to contribute with during the tech talk, I did feel that I learnt a lot. And all in all, I just enjoyed being around all these people who understood videoblogging and appreciated jokes such as "I just feel fed up with my feed". So thanks to everyone for a wonderful weekend. See you all in video, and I look forward to next year's VlogEurope! Here is some footage from the weekend.

Graduate fashion shows revamped

I'm back with a small video which has been composed of some footage I took at the beginning of this summer. The footage is taken at the Danish Fashion and Design Academy's graduate show (which was very good, by the way!), and I've wanted to use it for ... something for a long time. I think that sometimes the shows can get a very aggressive, impersonal sort of air, and I wanted to soften the expression a bit in this video; make it more like a slow dance instead, if you like. I found the idea of masked models very interesting. Music: Bach - Partita No.1 in B Minor BWV 1002 - Sarabande And check out my new Photo of the Week, all you ANT subscribers out there ;-)

Seriously. I don't expect anyone to know how to pronounce my surname. But in video it all becomes much easier. And I avoid feeling like a snob, correcting people whenever they try to pronounce my name. Music: Prokofiev - Peter and the Meadow, Harry Roy - Me, myself and I, Penderecki - Capriccio

Time for a bit of sillyness

Just got back from Sweden, and this is the only video I have which is finished. I always have a wonderful time going through the wardrobes in my familys old house up there, so I thought I would vlog it. Some of these clothes are up to 80 years old. I brought the yellow hat with me back to Copenhagen - I couldn't resist! Music: Guilty, from the soundtrack of Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain

Lazy days

Reading, isn't that what the summer is made for? At least when the weather is bad. I'm enjoying some relaxing days at home, the weather is not too good. As you can probably notice, I'm a bit of a lazy vlogger as well, not posting too often and not making my posts as varied in their expression as I'd like them to be. But here's a short update to show you how I'm doing. Music: J.S Bach - Cello Suite No. 2 in D Minor - Prelude Oh, and check out Vlog Europe, and the latest thread! Exciting.

Confession
from nordark on July 18, 2005

I am back in Copenhagen, and back online, only to confess that I have not actually taken a single video clip while abroad. Why? Because I have been too busy experiencing my trip through my own eyes, not my camera lens. However, I did take a few pictures, but again, not very many, since I always forget I have my camera with me when something worth photographing happens. Well, the pictures arranged in the slideshow are not very good, but give an image of how my time in Italy was. The best pictures are of the family I was staying with, but I don't know if I have their permission to post them online, so I'd rather not. The music is Buena Vista Social Club's Chan Chan, definitely not Italian, but will always remind me of the trip. The photos are taken in Chioggia, Burano, Padova, Venice, Chioggia again, Murano, and Venice again. In that order, obviously. My visit to London was wonderful, it is a city I like very much. Therefore I was absolutely devastated when I heard about the bombings on the Italian news. To all the affected families and loved ones, I send my thoughts and condolences.

A Break

I took a break from the books and went to Kongens Have (The King's Gardens) here in Copenhagen to relax, read, listen to music, and watch people. The castle in the background is the baroque Rosenborg Castle, king Christian IV's summer retreat, originally located outside of the city centre of Copenhagen. Now it's very central. Music: Lennart Lundberg - Nocturne Op. 61

Firstly, a big thank you to all the vloggers who replied the my previous post: Thank You! This does not, of course, mean that it is too late for others to vlog a reply. Looking forward to seeing more! And now for a few random scenes from my apartment. Music: Gustavo Santaolalla - Tema Amores Perros

Here is a simple video made from miscellaneous footage taken the past week, and especially yesterday, when I took a longer walk with my parents. Music: Pärt - Variation Zur Gesundung Von Arinuschka (only variation 1, 3,4 and 6 used). I’d also like to say I’m writing a big paper in the coming week, and will not, unfortunately, have much time for videologging. But stay tuned - there’s more to come later!

Dark Places

I've downloaded a demo version of Adobe After Effects 6.5, and I am having so much fun with editing and playing around with effects that I hardly remember to sleep or eat. Here is Dark Places, which is inspired by Dogme 95. Split screen is used, it’s only a short, and its not Academy 35 mm format, but apart from that, I have stayed true to the vow. Dark Places is also inspired by Mica Scalin's Boston Walking Tour.

Painting a painting

Firstly, thanks to everyone who left comments - its always fantastic to get feedback! I haven't painted in a good while, but paradoxically, videoblogging has motivated me to do so once again. Not a terribly thought through video, but then again, it doesn't have to be! Music: Dmitri Shostakovich - Walz II.

Welcome to NordArk, my creative space in the videologging community. I will mainly post videos, photography and artwork, but also regular blog posts. Portrait of a Child is the first videolog I'm posting on NordArk. It was originally a draft, but sometimes your first try turns out to be the best, and no matter how many times your try the same setup, it's just not the same. So here goes! Music: Bartok - String Quartet No. 4, Allegretto pizzicato Enjoy!
