3 most important things you must NOT do on a kayak while fishing for bull sharks

3 most important things you must NOT do on a kayak while fishing for bull sharks Today we have a short little podcast on the dangers of shark fishing from a kayak. This can also be combined to include most small boats under 16 feet in length. 3 most important things you must NOT do on a kayak while fishing for bull sharks Straddle the kayak with your feet on each side of the kayak. Keep them on the kayak. Set your drag too heavy. I nearly flipped over when a bull shark decided to make a hard, fast run STRAIT DOWN while the rod was still in the rod holder. Cast your bait to bull sharks, which are aggressively feeding, while standing. Stay low and keep your center of gravity down. Again it only takes one strong hook set and a broken line to dump you overboard and you will be swimming with the fishes. Tell your family that you are going shark fishing from a kayak! Just leave out the part about the huge bull sharks. Trust me! Okay that was four things but I can t stress enough about how most family members react to hearing about bull sharks and kayaks in the same sentence. Welcome to Elements of Fishing We are creating an educational tool for everyone that wants to learn how to fish. There are 5 very basic steps that we all use to make our fishing expeditions successful episode 002 Elements of Fishing Today s topic is: Search Engine Research to Find a Fishing Location Hi my name is Mark Laymon, Welcome to Elements of Fishing! A Fishing Video Podcast educating you on the five basic elements of fishing. Today s topic deals with research. We are still working on our video productions. I do not want to keep you waiting any longer. So we decided to publish an audio podcast today. Now on to our topic of this podcast, search engine research to find a fishing location. Search engines should be the first place to go to when you are thinking of finding new locations. Search engines can be a great tool to do your investigating. When you do your searches, with your search engine of choice, start with a short phrase like snapper fishing, then move on to more targeted searches such as snapper fishing from a kayak, or on to a more complex search such as yellowtail snapper fishing from a kayak in Florida. The longer the search terms the more precise the page you will find. As you lengthen the search term, the search engines get to know more about you and can deliver a better quality page specifically for you. By the way these are called long tail search phrases These long tail search phrases are your friends. Use them and discover exactly what you are looking for and in a shorter period of time. Let s look at an example of a long tail search phrase, and how to construct it. I live in Palm Beach County, Florida. I want to fish for mangrove snapper. I will be using a kayak. A special side note. Be sure NOT to use quotes when searching with long tail phrases, quotes will confine your search to a smaller group than needed. Today I am using Google as my search engine of the day, but again do not limit yourself to one search engine. Now let s do our search using the phrase: mangrove snapper fishing from a kayak in Palm Beach Florida The previous search reviled a page with an article in the number one space in Google. Here is the link: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2006/06/15/a10c_paddlepark_0615.html It is located in the Palm Beach Post Newspaper website and is a great article about a location just north of Jupiter Island. They even quote a well respected company, Adventure Times Kayaks in North Palm Beach and talk about fishing in a secluded area of St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park. They also give some very important information about St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park, such as parking and the fees involved to dock. If you would like to visit St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park we have included the following information from the article. Guided trips: Adventure Times Kayaks leads trips on the paddling trail with a stop on the beach at St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park one Sunday each month. Call (561) 881-7218 or visit www.kayakkayak.com You may also contact the state parks program for details: Call (772) 219-1880 or visit www.floridastateparks.org There are many locations on the internet that will produce great results on locations near you to fish. Just do not limit yourself. Even searching online magazines and newspaper sites can produce great locations that hold fish. That is going to wrap it up for today. In future podcasts we will help you navigate Mapquest. Plus some of the more advanced methods to find productive fishing waters in your area. Before we close for the day, I would appreciate it if you to do us a gigantic favor. Vote for us on some of the social networking sites. The link to our voting page is in our sidebar. If you like us, vote for us, plus we would like you to add us to your RSS reader. We also have added a subscription box in the upper left corner for you to submit your email address to be notified of new podcasts. This is not to spam you. The only time it sends mail is when we post out podcast. Again I want to point out a few things to remember: Long tail search phrases - 4 words or more Use more than one search engine Do not use quotes when searching Have fun while you search. Thanks again for listening and have a great day of fishing! Welcome to Elements of Fishing We are creating an educational tool for everyone that wants to learn how to fish. There are 5 very basic steps that we all use to make our fishing expeditions successful The first step is; Research, the exploitative part of the fishing trip. Whether it is to study a magazine, map or website. Step two is choosing your gear. Fishing equipment can be as simple as a cane pole, line, hook and a worm. Step three is technique. You must choose how your are going to entice the fish to your bait. Such methods are casting trolling, jigging and many other methods to add at a later point. Step four is how to clean, fillet and store your prize fish that you worked very hard to catch. Step five is the cooking and preparation of your fish as a meal. All of these steps we will be covering in our video podcasts and following up in our forum. Have a great day and subscribe now to our RSS feed to be notified as we post new video podcasts about the Elemements of Fishing.
