Show 242 How would God vote. Michael Medved talks to author David Klinghoffer. 37 minutes 8.5MB From How Would God Vote? The Bible commands a style of politics that in the American context could only be described as deeply conservative. Is, then, the politics of God theocratic? âA strong case could be made for theocracy, American-style, if the word were defined not in the conventional way but according to its root meaning. Democracy signifies the rule of the demos, the people. Strictly speaking, theocracy means the rule not of churches or priests but of theos, God. It won't do to deny that many conservatives, even while unambiguously affirming the traditional American separation of church and state, would add more theos to the democratic mix than is currently the case. I choose not to call myself a theocrat because I know how eager liberal secularists would be to twist the word against me. Dishonestly they would make it appear that I wish to impose a literal biblical theocracy, that I would dumbly imitate word for word the political structure of king, priesthood, and religious high court that existed in biblical antiquity. âYet, in a subtler sense, are we not all theocrats now?â This startlingly original investigation into the controversies dividing America provides a clear and convincing affirmation of the relevance of the Bible to contemporary politics. With liberals and conservatives alike claiming the authority of the Bible as support for their views on social and moral issues, the need to understand what the Bible actually says has never been more pressing. In How Would God Vote?, journalist and scholar David Klinghoffer illuminates the worldview set forth in the Scriptures and argues that, with some exceptions, the God of the Bible would overwhelmingly support traditionally conservative principles and policies. Klinghoffer considers the ethical and moral heart of contemporary political debatesâquestions like immigration, gay marriage, abortion, care for the poor, war and peace, censorship, privacy, the place of religion in schools and the community, and much more. There is a pattern here. It s for a very good reason that conservatives line up as they do, predictably, on a range of issue; as do liberals. The two competing political philosophies derive from radically different ways of looking at the world: one in consonance with the Bible, the other very much not. Klinghoffer, however, is no stereotypical Republican. Controversially, he argues that the Bible would have us emphasize domestic policy, the classic pre-9/11 culture war issues, over a hyped-up âWorld War IVâ against âIslamofascism.â The Bible has a foreign policy, he shows, and it is not neoconservative. He demonstrates support in the Scriptures for a welcoming attitude toward immigrants, for gun control, and for affirmative action. The Bible, Klinghoffer shows, is no mere list of dos and donâts but a fully coherent and practically relevant portrait of moral reality, compelling and deep enough to guide not only our private but our public lives. Even if we as individuals fail its private tests, thatâs no reason to reject its public lessons. To anyone who takes God seriously, every election poses a radical question: Will we vote with Him, or against Him? The Bible is an unapologetically political book, Klinghoffer explains, and an extremely conservative one. Some political views offend God, and those views are mostly liberal. In short, the Bible commands you to be a conservative. Stimulating and provocative, How Would God Vote? is an important contribution to pre-election debates and to setting the path the nation will follow in the future under a new president.

Show 241 Part 2 of 2. Islam: What the West Needs to Know. Audio version of the film documentary. To see the free video visit Google Video - Islam: What the West needs to know. ACU highly recommends this documentary. Documentary description-An examination of Islam, violence, and the fate of the non-Muslim world. Virtually every major Western leader has over the past several years expressed the view that Islam is a peaceful religion and that those who commit violence in its name are fanatics who misinterpret its tenets. This claim, while widely circulated, rarely attracts serious public examination. Now, the question is finally being asked, Is Islam itself violent? Through an examination of the Koran, other Islamic texts, and the example of the prophet Muhammad, this documentary establishes, through a sober and methodical presentation, that violence against non-Muslims is and has always been an integral aspect of Islam. Jihad, while best translated as struggle, as represented in the Koran and the life of Muhammad, means nothing less than organized warfare against unbelievers. Relying primarily on Islam's own sources, this documentary demonstrates that Islam is a violent, expansionary ideology that seeks the destruction or subjugation of other faiths, cultures, and systems of government. The documentary consists of original interviews, citations from Islamic texts, Islamic artwork, computer-animated maps, footage of Western leaders, and Islamic television broadcasts. Its tone is sober, methodical, and compelling. Features interviews with noted experts on Islam including Robert Spencer, Serge Trifkovic, Bat Ye'or, Abdullah Al-Araby, and former terrorist Walid Shoebat.

Show 237 Dennis Prager talks to Dick Morris, columnist for the New York Post and renown political commentator. His latest book is Fleeced: How Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Media Mockery of Terrorist Threats, Liberals Who Want to Kill Talk Radio, the Do-Nothing Congress, Companies ... Are Scamming Us ... and What to Do About It. 35 minutes 8MB Here are the facts: The United States has released 425 terrorists from GuantÃnamo, at least 50 of whom have returned to the battlefield to fight our troops. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both say they're fiscally responsible. But each has called for $1 trillion in tax increases over the next ten yearsâand dressed them up as tax cuts! Mainstream Media has been given marching orders from the Society of Professional Journalists: never refer to Islamic terrorists or Muslim terrorists. And they are obeying! Whenever our brave agents disrupt a terror plot, The media dismisses the culprits as a gang of idiotsâlulling us into a false sense of security. If the liberals win the 2008 election, they will cripple talk radioâforcing stations to give equal time to left-wing programs, and insisting that liberals play a key role in station management. Up to a quarter of all state pension funds in the United States are invested in companies that are helping Iran, Syria, North Korea, or the Sudanâfor a total of nearly $200 billion. The Do-Nothing Congress is still doing nothingâand the worst offenders are the presidential candidates Clinton, Obama, and McCain, who never show up for their day jobs as senators . . . except to pick up their $165,000 paycheck! Is it any wonder that Americans feel fleeced at every turn? As more and more critical problems develop that need national attention, the White House and Congress appear to be AWOL. Who's calling the shots instead? Big business, big government, big labor, and big lobbyists. And their self-serving agendas are doing nothing to help the ever-increasing number of American people who are losing their homes, paying credit card interest rates higher than 25 percent, and finding their jobs increasingly outsourced to foreign countries. In this hard-hitting call to arms, Dick Morris and Eileen McGann reveal the hundreds of ways American tax-payers are routinely fleecedâby our own government; by foreign countries like Dubai that are gobbling up American interests and spending millions to influence government decisions and American public opinion; by Washington lobbying firms that are pushing the agendas of corrupt foreign dictators on Capitol Hill; and by hedge-fund billionaires collecting huge tax breaks courtesy of the IRS. With their characteristic blend of sharp analysis and insider insight, Morris and McGann call offenders of all kinds on the carpetâand offer practical agendas we all can follow to help turn the tide. Show 236 Whos Giving? Author Arthur C. Brooks discusses charity at the Heritage Foundation in Washington DC. To watch the video of this speech visit Arthur C. Brooks at the Heritage Foundation A charity divide runs through America: three-quarters of Americans contribute their time and money to various causes, while the rest of the population does not, according to Arthur C. Brooks, a leading scholar on economics and public policy. Brooks' research identifies the factors driving American charity, including strong families, church attendance, and the belief that social ills are best addressed by individuals rather than government. Brooks' findings have significant implications for policy debates on pressing issues like welfare reform, urban policy, the estate tax, education, and church/state questions. Charity matters, says Brooks, not only to individual donors and recipients who benefit directly, but also to the prosperity and self-government of America as a whole. Arthur C. Brooks has authored numerous articles and books related to charity and civic life. He is professor of public administration at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal. Aurthur C. Brooks, author of Who Really Cares. The suprising truth about compassionate conservativism. We all know we should give to charity, but who really does? In Who Really Cares, he demonstrates conclusively that conservatives really are compassionate-far more compassionate than their liberal foes. Strong families, church attendance, earned income (as opposed to state-subsidized income), and the belief that individuals, not government, offer the best solution to social ills-all of these factors determine how likely one is to give. Charity mattersânot just to the givers and to the recipients, but to the nation as a whole. It is crucial to our prosperity, happiness, health, and our ability to govern ourselves as a free people. In Who Cares, Brooks outlines strategies for expanding the ranks of givers, for the good of all Americans.

Show 234 The Case for Traditional Marriage. In face of same-sex marriages becoming legal in California, Dennis makes the case for the importance for the traditional definition of marriage and the consequences of abandoning it. Segment 2- The Right to Love. That's how the Los Angeles Times headlined their editorial endorsing same sex marriage. The right to love? Is that what same sex marriage is about? If it is, why not endorse polygamy? The other argument the Los Angeles Times makes is that banning same sex marriage is like banning interracial marriage. It s a silly argument. There are no differences between the races except skin color. But there are major differences between men and women. But this doesn't matter. If you oppose same sex marriage you are a racist, according to Los Angeles Times. 71 minutes 16MB Download all of Dennis Pragers shows free at: http://www.townhall.com/talkradio/Show.aspx?RadioShowID=3 ITunes users search Townhall.com-Dennis Prager for all of Pragers show.- Best podcast out there. Show 233 The Devil's Delusion. Medved talks to author David Berlinski. Audio MP3

Show 233 Michael Medved talks to author of The Devil s Delusion, David Berlinski. 37 minutes 8MB Book Description: Militant atheism is on the rise. Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens have dominated bestseller lists with books denigrating religious belief as dangerous foolishness. And these authors are merely the leading edge of a far larger movement-one that now includes much of the scientific community. The attack on traditional religious thought,â writes David Berlinski in The Devil's Delusion, marks the consolidation in our time of science as the single system of belief in which rational men and women might place their faith, and if not their faith, then certainly their devotion.â A secular Jew, Berlinski nonetheless delivers a biting defense of religious thought. An acclaimed author who has spent his career writing about mathematics and the sciences, he turns the scientific community s cherished skepticism back on itself, daring to ask and answer some rather embarrassing questions: Has anyone provided a proof of God's inexistence? Not even close. Has quantum cosmology explained the emergence of the universe or why it is here? Not even close. Have the sciences explained why our universe seems to be fine-tuned to allow for the existence of life? Not even close. Are physicists and biologists willing to believe in anything so long as it is not religious thought? Close enough. Has rationalism in moral thought provided us with an understanding of what is good, what is right, and what is moral? Not close enough. Has secularism in the terrible twentieth century been a force for good? Not even close to being close. Is there a narrow and oppressive orthodoxy of thought and opinion within the sciences? Close enough. Does anything in the sciences or in their philosophy justify the claim that religious belief is irrational? Not even ballpark. Is scientific atheism a frivolous exercise in intellectual contempt? Dead on. Berlinski does not dismiss the achievements of western science. The great physical theories, he observes, are among the treasures of the human race. But they do nothing to answer the questions that religion asks, and they fail to offer a coherent description of the cosmos or the methods by which it might be investigated. This brilliant, incisive, and funny book explores the limits of science and the pretensions of those who insist it can be-indeed must be-the ultimate touchstone for understanding our world and ourselves. Show 231 Dennis Prager talks to Noah Feldman, professor at Harvard Law School, contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine and an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. His latest book is The Fall and Rise of the Islamic State. 35 minutes 8MB Perhaps no other Western writer has more deeply probed the bitter struggle in the Muslim world between the forces of religion and law and those of violence and lawlessness as Noah Feldman. His scholarship has defined the stakes in the Middle East today. Now, in this penetrating book, Feldman tells the story behind the increasingly popular call for the establishment of the shari'a--the law of the traditional Islamic state--in the modern Muslim world. Western powers call it a threat to democracy. Islamist movements are winning elections on it. Terrorists use it to justify their crimes. What, then, is the shari'a? Given the severity of some of its provisions, why is it popular among Muslims? Can the Islamic state succeed--should it? Feldman reveals how the classical Islamic constitution governed through and was legitimated by law. He shows how executive power was balanced by the scholars who interpreted and administered the shari'a, and how this balance of power was finally destroyed by the tragically incomplete reforms of the modern era. The result has been the unchecked executive dominance that now distorts politics in so many Muslim states. Feldman argues that a modern Islamic state could provide political and legal justice to today's Muslims, but only if new institutions emerge that restore this constitutional balance of power. The Fall and Rise of the Islamic State gives us the sweeping history of the traditional Islamic constitution--its noble beginnings, its downfall, and the renewed promise it could hold for Muslims and Westerners alike. Noah Feldman is professor at Harvard Law School. He is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine and an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Show 232 Makers and Takers. Michael Medved talks to author Peter Schweizer. 37 minutes 8MB . Book Description: In Makers and Takers you will discover why: * Seventy-one percent of conservatives say you have an obligation to care for a seriously injured spouse or parent versus less than half (46 percent) of liberals. * Conservatives have a better work ethic and are much less likely to call in sick than their liberal counterparts. * Liberals are 2Â times more likely to be resentful of others' success and 50 percent more likely to be jealous of other people s good luck. * Liberals are 2 times more likely to say it is okay to cheat the government out of welfare money you don't deserve. * Conservatives are more likely than liberals to hug their children and significantly more likelyâ to display positive nurturing emotions. * Liberals are less trusting of family members and much less likely to stay in touch with their parents. * Do you get satisfaction from putting someone else s happiness ahead of your own? Fifty-five percent of conservatives said yes versus only 20 percent of liberals. * Rush Limbaugh, Ronald Reagan, Bill O'Reilly and Dick Cheney have given large sums of money to people in need, while Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Moore, and Al Gore have not. * Those who are very liberalâ are 3 times more likely than conservatives to throw things when they get angry. The American left prides itself on being superior to conservatives: more generous, less materialistic, more tolerant, more intellectual, and more selfless. For years scholars have constructedâand the media has pushedâelaborate theories designed to demonstrate that conservatives suffer from a host of personality defects and character flaws. According to these supposedly unbiased studies, conservatives are mean-spirited, greedy, selfish malcontents with authoritarian tendencies. Far from the belief of a few cranks, prominent liberals from John Kenneth Galbraith to Hillary Clinton have succumbed to these prejudices. But what do the facts show? Peter Schweizer has dug deepâthrough tax documents, scholarly data, primary opinion research surveys, and private recordsâand has discovered that these claims are a myth. Indeed, he shows that many of these claims actually apply more to liberals than conservatives. Much as he did in his bestseller Do as I Say (Not as I Do), he brings to light never-before-revealed facts that will upset conventional wisdom. Conservatives such as Ronald Reagan and Robert Bork have long argued that liberal policies promote social decay. Schweizer, using the latest data and research, exposes how, in general: * Liberals are more self-centered than conservatives. * Conservatives are more generous and charitable than liberals. * Liberals are more envious and less hardworking than conservatives. * Conservatives value truth more than liberals, and are less prone to cheating and lying. * Liberals are more angry than conservatives. * Conservatives are actually more knowledgeable than liberals. * Liberals are more dissatisfied and unhappy than conservatives. Schweizer argues that the failure lies in modern liberal ideas, which foster a self-centered, if it feels good do itâ attitude that leads liberals to outsource their responsibilities to the government and focus instead on themselves and their own desires. The Language of God A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief By Francis S. Collins From Simon Schuster publishers- Dr. Francis Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, is one of the world's leading scientists. He works at the cutting edge of the study of DNA, the code of life. Yet he is also a man of unshakable faith in God and scripture. Dr. Collins believes that faith in God and faith in science can coexist within a person and be harmonious. In The Language of God he makes his case for God and for science. He has heard every argument against faith from scientists, and he can refute them. He has also heard the needless rejection of scientific truths by some people of faith, and he can counter that, too. Show 228 The Post American World. Michael Medved talks to author Fareed Zakaria. 37 minutes 8.5MB. Synopsis- One of our most distinguished thinkers argues that the rise of the restâ is the great story of our time. This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else.â So begins Fareed Zakaria's important new work on the era we are now entering. Following on the success of his best-selling The Future of Freedom, Zakaria describes with equal prescience a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures. He sees the rise of the restââthe growth of countries like China, India, Brazil, Russia, and many othersâas the great story of our time, and one that will reshape the world. The tallest buildings, biggest dams, largest-selling movies, and most advanced cell phones are all being built outside the United States. This economic growth is producing political confidence, national pride, and potentially international problems. How should the United States understand and thrive in this rapidly changing international climate? What does it mean to live in a truly global era? Zakaria answers these questions with his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination. The New York Times Book Review - Josef Joffe âmake no mistake. This is a relentlessly intelligent book that eschews simple-minded projections from crisis to collapse. There is certainly plenty to bemoanâfrom the disappearing dollar to the subprime disaster, from rampant anti-Americanism to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that will take years to win. Yet Zakaria s is not another exercise in declinism. His point is not the demise of Gulliver, but the rise of the rest.â Biography- Fareed Zakaria is the editor of Newsweek International and writes a weekly column on international affairs. His previous book was the New York Times bestseller The Future of Freedom. He lives in New York City. Show 225 George Washington on Leadership. Michael Medved talks to author Richard Brookhiser. 37 minutes 8.6MB Synopsis- FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE, FIRST IN LEADERSHIP. Richard Brookhiser's revolutionary biography, Founding Father, took George Washington off the dollar bill and made him live. Now, with his trademark wit and precision, Brookhiser expertly examines the details of Washington s life that fullscale biographies sweep over, to instruct us in true leadership. George Washington on Leadership is a textbook look at Washington's three spectacularly successful careers as an executive: general, president, and tycoon. Brookhiser explains how Washington maximized his strengths and overcame his flaws, and inspires us to do likewise. It shows how one man s struggles and successes 200 years ago can be a model for leaders today. Washington oversaw two startups-the army and the presidency. He chaired the most important meeting in American history-the Constitutional Convention. Washington rose from being a third son who was a major in the militia, to one of the most famous men in the world. At every stage in his career, he had to deal with changing circumstances, from tobacco prices to geopolitics, and with wildly different classes of men, from frontiersmen to aristocrats. Washingtonâs example is so crucial because of the many firsts he is responsible for. About the Author- Richard Brookhiser is the author of What Would the Founders Do?, Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton, American, and Americaâs First Dynasty: The Adamses, 1735-1918. He wrote and hosted the critically acclaimed PBS documentary Rediscovering George Washington, is a columnist for TIME magazine, and is a senior editor of National Review. Show 221 Moment of Truth in Iraq: How a New 'Greatest Generation' of American Soldiers is Turning Defeat and Disaster into Victory and Hope. Michael Medved talks to author Michael Yon. 37 minutes 8.6MB Synopsis- Never underestimate the American soldier. That's the moral of former Green Beret Michael Yon's brilliant battle-by-battle, block-by-block tale of how America's new 'greatest generation' of soldiers is turning defeat and disaster into victory and hope in Iraq. The American soldier is the reason General David Petraeus's brilliant strategy of moving our soldiers off isolated bases and out among the Iraqi people is working. Working to find and kill terrorists, reclaim neighborhoods, and help lead Iraq to democracy. Yon is no cheerleader. According to the New York Times, he has logged more time in combat situations in Iraq than any other U.S. reporter. When failed American leadership was driving Iraq into chaos and civil war, nobody told the story earlier or better than Michael Yon. The top brass was so mad that twice the U.S. military denied him access to Iraq. So Yon has supreme credibility when he says that we are finally winning, not primarily with our overwhelming technology, not with shock and awe destruction, but with the even more powerful force of American values--with the courage and leadership, strength and compassion of our soldiers. Moment of Truth in Iraq is packed with Yon's trademark thrilling and often heart-rending tales from the battlefield: * The American commander fed up with phony Al Qaeda 'documentaries' that showed terrorists shooting at bombed out American vehicles as if they had beaten us in open battle. The commander and his men staged the bombing of a broken down truck, then when the terrorists came to put on their act, Navy SEAL snipers killed every one. * Follow the exploits of the great Deuce Four battalion that becamethe center of a warrior cult dreaded by terrorists and revered by Iraqis. *Think Iraqi soldiers can't fight? Read about the elite Iraqi SWAT team taking down a terror cell for the murder of four American soldiers and a brave Iraqi guide. *Think Americans are occupiers, not liberators, of Iraq? Tell that to the wounded Iraqi interpreter, who, convinced he was about to die, begged his U.S. commander to have his heart cut out and buried in America. * Learn why so many Iraqi boys dream of becoming American soldiers. * Brutalized by Saddam for decades, Iraqis hungered for strength entwined with justice and tempered by mercy. The American soldier delivered. Here is the true, untold story of the American soldier and the courage and values that are bringing victory for America-and Iraq. The New York Times rack[ed] up more time embedded with combat units than any other journalist

Show 219 A Conservative History of the American Left. Michael Medved interviews author Daniel Flynn.

Show 219 A Conservative History of the American Left. Michael Medved interviews author Daniel Flynn. 34 minutes. 8MB From Human Events books: Loony Leftism: it didn't start with Hillary Clinton s comparison of marriage and family with slavery and the Indian reservation system. It didn't start when Thomas Frank wrote in What s the Matter with Kansas about the borderline criminality of capitalism. It didn't even start with the Sixties! It s surprising but true: the loony but now -- sadly -- mainstream Left has its roots in some radical movements that are centuries old. Today, with the Leftâs influence once again growing in American life, despite its utter intellectual and moral bankruptcy, itâs more important than ever for conservatives to be able to mount a clear-eyed, informed resistance -- and thatâs why Daniel Flynnâs rollicking A Conservative History of the American Left is so eye-opening and timely. Here at last is the first book that dares to tear away the pious fictions surrounding the American Left, and to reveal the true origins of the loony Leftist ideas that leave conservatives frustrated, outraged, and amazed that anyone could think such insane things. Think that the wild ideas propagated by the Left today are newly minted? Think again. Flynn (author of the acclaimed Intellectual Morons and Why the Left Hates America) shows that many of them date back to the earliest days of America. And that even includes the Leftâs hatred for Christianity, its moral relativism, and its calls for government to solve all of our problems. All that and more can be traced back into the 19th century. Flynn demonstrates that the Leftâs arguments have been refuted, rejected, and discarded again and again, but generation after generation liberals trot them out again. Even liberal anti-Americanism is nothing new: Flynn notes that the famed abolitionist crusader William Lloyd Garrison, in 1848 published a piece in his newspaper, The Liberator, that read: We only hope that, if blood has had to flow, that it has been that of the Americans. And Garrison is not the only forefather of the loony Left who ever haunted the American scene. Flynn introduces you to a rogueâs gallery of Leftist loons, hacks and psychopaths who were, paradoxically enough, taken seriously in their day, and left their mark on the Leftist movement ever after. These include Mary Gove Nichols, a free love advocate and anti-marriage activist who compared matrimony to slavery and prostitution, becoming the Betty Friedan of the antebellum era -- until she horrified her followers by getting married and converting to Catholicism! Then thereâs Victoria Claflin Woodhull, who ran for president on the Equal Rights Party ticket in 1872, 48 years before women could vote in presidential elections. An early hero of the feminist movement? Sure -- and also an advocate of far-out scientific religion featuring spirit rappings and the appearances of ghosts. And donât forget the grim and humorless Leftist ideologue Mike Gold, who denounced Gilbert and Sullivan as the cultural pioneers of fascism and proclaimed that the Russian Bolsheviks will leave the world a better place than Jesus left it. An enthralling account of the nutty origins of the loony Left, A Conservative History of the American Left enables conservatives to understand and more effectively combat the Left today. Meet the old Leftists, same as the new Leftists: John Humphrey Noyes and the Perfectionists: a 19th-century utopian community that anticipated the Leftâs new, cutting-edge ideas of today -- including economic collectivism, free love, hostility to the nuclear family, pacifism, anti-Americanism, and passion for eugenics Robert Owen, the rags-to-riches Welsh industrialist who identified private property, religion, and marriage as the most monstrous evils almost two centuries ago Michael Mooreâs forefather: the crusading early twentieth century Leftist journalist who announced that he wanted to destroy the facts The presidential administration that brought top-down reform by liberal technocrats, fast-paced centralization, and constitutional disposability to Washington long before Hillary Clinton was even born The American Communist dupe who, with his propaganda, paved the way for the blood and violence of the Russian Revolution, and the terror of its aftermath Why the American Socialist Party gets the lionâs share of attention from historians despite being far smaller and less influential than many other American third-party movements The open racism of many of the most prominent Leftists of the nineteenth and earlier twentieth century -- foreshadowing the racial paternalism of todayâs Left Why Karl Marxâs violent, one-size-fits-all, industry-centered ideology meshed better with the post-Civil War American Left than did the gradualist, experimental, agrarian-centered Communist movements of the prewar years The Democratic demagogue who secured a presidential nomination by preaching class resentment Whitewashing the Reds: the non-Communist American historian of China who willingly altered his account in order to please Chinaâs new Communist masters The muddleheaded charlatan who suckered thousands of Americans -- including the best and brightest of the nineteenth-century American Left -- into believing him a political genius and spiritual luminary Christianity should redeem society as well as the individual from all sin : how the Social Gospel movement was born, and quickly left behind any trace of the Gospel at all The Single Tax advocate who called for a draconian land tax that would, in effect, have forced property holders to rent land from the state A tour de force. A Conservative History of the American Left is a compelling read, supported by an enormous amount of research. Even those on the Left will learn something about their movement by reading this book, although they are unlikely to enjoy reading Flynnâs many revelations and poignant insights. â- Peter Schweizer, bestselling author of Do As I Say (Not As I Do) Witty, insightful, and informed, Dan Flynnâs A Conservative History of the American Left is the best introduction I know to this destructive and unavoidable social phenomenon. â-David Horowitz, bestselling author of The Professors, editor-in-chief of FrontPage Magazine For all of Michael Medveds shows go to https://www.michaelmedved.com/site to listen live for free or $4.95 per month to download all of his podcasts.-

Show 218 The Really Inconvenient Truths: Seven Environmental Catastrophes Liberals Don t Want You to Know About - Because They Helped Cause Them. Michael Medved talks to author Iain Murray. Why environmentalists are the environment's worst enemy And why effective environmental stewardship depends on free enterprise and property rights The liberal environmental movement takes for granted that strict government regulation and public ownership is necessary for the preservation of the environment. Yet who, in the end, is responsible for the great environmental catastrophes of the recent past? According to Iain Murray of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the real answer is: environmentalists themselves. The dogmatic ideologies and restrictive policies pushed on us by the environmental Left have harmed nature more than helped it,â argues Murray, but the environmentalists have never borne the blame.â Now, in The REALLY Inconvenient Truths: Seven Environmental Catastrophes Liberals Don t Want You to Know About - Because They Helped Cause Them, Murray reveals just how often and gravely liberal environmentalists have harmed the environment, how they have covered up this fact, and how conservatives can reclaim the environmental issue by stressing free-enterprise, private-property solutions. To make his case, Murray focuses on seven major modern environmental catastrophes that illustrate the failure of the liberal approach. All had tragic consequences for humans or the environment. All could have been avoided or mitigated by alternative approaches based on conservative thinking. Yet, in each case, the liberal approach was not to admit failureâbut to condemn the alternative approach, deny the problem exists, blame it on something else or even to claim it as a victory. The REALLY Inconvenient Truths reveals: The origins of the modern liberal environmental movement in the campaign to ban DDTâand how that led to the resurgence of malaria in the poorest countries, with devastatingly fatal consequences How the government-dictated preference for corn-based ethanol and other biofuels is causing massive land overuse, soaring food prices, and increased hunger in the poorest places How a single SUV tank of ethanol-based gasoline burns enough food to feed a starving African for a year How public ownership of waterways causes pollutionâand was the real reason Cleveland's Cuyahoga River caught fireâ in 1969 (a founding myth of environmentalism) How hormones from contraceptive and morning afterâ pills are literally being flushed into rivers and causing bizarre sexual malformations in fishâand why, for once, there has been no outcry from liberals Yellowstone in flames: How liberal-inspired management programs in the Forest Service and the National Parks have led to major wildfiresâincluding a near-castrophic one in the nation s crown jewel, Yellowstone Park How the Endangered Species Act actually increases the threat of wildlife extinctionâwhile private approaches have helped species recover all over the world Getting the Green: how the environmental movement is funded by industries that reap enormous profits from environmental laws and regulations How overfishing of the oceans results directly from liberal opposition to property rights in the oceans, as embodied in the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) Shut Up, He Explained: how censorship, manufactured outrage, and even phony âscienceâ are being used to cut short the debate over global warming The Lost Sea: how the last attempt to âscientifically manageâ an economy, in Soviet Russia, caused the destruction of the Aral Seaâwhich Al Gore and others now wrongly blame on global warming What history demonstrates about the importance of property rights in protecting the environment In this election year, Republican politicians tell us that conservatives need to adapt and develop an âenvironmentalâ policy to compete with liberal Democrats. In truth, no adaptation is needed. As The REALLY Inconvenient Truths demonstrates, liberal laws and policies that were introduced in the name of saving the environment are hurting itâwhereas conservative principles such as freedom and property rights help to preserve and protect the environment whenever they are allowed to work For all of Michael Medveds shows go to https://www.michaelmedved.com/site to listen live for free or $4.95 per month to download all of his podcasts.-
