During the evening hours on September 26th, the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Ward County Sheriff's Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location in Ward County. Officers say the purpose of broadcasting news of the event is to discourage people from driving drunk, and ultimately, prevent a tragedy. Captain Gary Orluck says the public tends to respond positively to the checkpoints because they understand the good they serve... They understand that the minor twelve second inconvenience for them, could be saving a lot of people's lives if we get one drunk driver off the road, or if we deter people from drinking and driving in the first place. Orluck says the location of the checkpoint will not be released, but it will be somewhere in the Minot area.
