This Bon Festival Dance is believed to have started over 500 years ago in the later years of the Muromachi period (1336-1573) simply as public entertainment. This kind of traditional group-oriented dance style is very highly interesting, very upbeat and just absolutely stunning to see, especially when witnessed live.
