During the 1990s, Punk Empire was a modest, "in-your-basement" video project with no more than 200 VHS copies being exchanged between friends, bands and promoters in the Montreal area.
YouTube then came along in 2005 and was the perfect platform for Punk Empire. Thousands of music fans across the world could immediately watch our videos. Goodbye VHS ! Since then, we have uploaded 500 of our videos on YouTube and they've been viewed nearly 2 Million times: youtube.com/user/punk2116.

All this has been possible because of Do-It-Yourself ethics such as trust, respect, honnesty, friendship and a strong passion for music. All in all, for the good health of the DIY subculture.
Punk Empire's purpose is to document and support great music & musicians and expose them to the world through short video capsules. Over the years, we have won the bands, the promoters and the record companies' trust and we thank them for it.

DIY: Do it yourself, often referred to by the acronym DIY, is a term used by various communities that focus on people creating or repairing things for themselves without the aid of paid professionals.
DIY subculture encourage people to take technologies into their own hands to solve needs.
In recent years, the term DIY has taken on a broader meaning that covers a wide range of skill sets. Today, for example, DIY is associated with the international alternative and hardcore music scenes. Members of these subcultures strive to blur the lines between creator and consumer by constructing a social network that ties users and makers close together.
