all lost to the wave which hit on Christmas Eve 2004.
Our film shows the city of Galle, the old town and main rail station. The line eastwards to Koggala Station and the famous Sri Lankan beaches. This line and the rolling stock used was in decline long before the Tsunami took back a little piece of its territory. The track had little ballast, the rolling stock had seen better days and the engines were already for the scrap yard.
But it is nice to see how a former British colony (Ceylon) used to run a railway. The pride in the workforce was still their. Working for and on the railway was an important position and like here in England, the job was passed down the family line from father to son.
Please enjoy this 6.30 minute film which we here at Spruce Studios through would never see the light of day. How situations and times change. This film now appears on our Verde Canyon Railroad production, as bonus footage, should you wish to purchase it.
