Upside Down Video

Boone-Oakley ReInvents
There is some very creative thinking from Boone Oakley - an ad agency in Charlotte, NC. Now that is the sort of the thing that you would expect from an advertising agency - but what makes this an unusual video is that they have replaced their entire website with the Youtube video. The entire set of demo reels, website, About Us, customer references and links have been replaced by a video, using the indexing capability that has been added to YouTube. You owe it to yourself to skip forward to the “About Us” tab.
This is probably not going to endanger the careers of web site designers or content management systems, but it challenges the ideas of what the technology can and should be used for.
The web emerged emulating print media and slowly moved from single text oriented sites to “brochureware” replacing product data sheets and catalog brochures. Only later did the same graphic resources design, and images get deployed for more conceptual “capability brochures” with more abstract content. Video and media were incorporated delivering the content directly descending from ancestors such as projector film strips. More bandwidth allowed limited motion and then emulation of television.
Boone Oakley turned this upside down. It used technology intended for television to create.. stick figures. But interactive, interesting stick figures that tell a story in about 55 seconds, suck you in and soon have you clicking all over the site.. uh make that video .. or is it video ?
Whatever it is, it’s hitting viral status and is going to get more attention than any website. Even if the initials of their founders aren’t in the title. You’ll get that joke when you watch.
