Born in 1946 in Tourcoing in misty northern France, he now resides in the sun splashed south near the beautiful town of Uzes. He started painting at the age of 14 after seeing an exhibition of John Van der Velden. From 1968 to 1977 he was the offi cial restorer at the Chateau des Rohan in Strasbourg. In 1975 he won the prize Louis Weiller given by the city of Paris at the Academie Francaise. From 1978 to 1986 he exhibited in Strasbourg, Vienna, Fribourg, Bale and Montpellier. From 1989 to 1993 his work was shown at the Blondel Gallery in Paris. R E Welch Gallery exclusively represents Philippe Dutilleul s work in the United States.
