Description:
Inbev buys Anheuser-Busch to create the world's largest beer brewer -- French nuclear diplomacy in the Mediterranean Union -- Changing farming production to save water and building an airport city. All that on this week’s Money Talks! Tune in to this week's program or listen to the audio stream here on the Internet. You can also subscribe to our podcast. Belgian Brewer Inbev Swallows Anheuser-Busch After the takeover created the world's biggest beer brewer, will we only be drinking from the Anheuser-Busch/Inbev tap? After having resisted offers from InBev for a month, the Anheuser-Busch board finally agreed to accept a sweetened bid that had been raised to 70 dollars a share in cash from 65. While capping Anheuser's roughly 150 years of independence as a premier American brewer, the deal creates not only the world's largest beer company but one of the top five consumer goods groups in the world. Money Talks asked industry analyst Steve Goldstein, head of Marketwatch London bureau, just how big the new company will be.How France Plans to Export its Nuclear Industry Nicolas Sarkozy's pet project the Mediteranean Union is now up and running. And The French government is well placed to try and boost ties between the EU and the countries of North Africa and the Middle East. France has colonial links with Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Syria and Lebanon. But it also has ties with many of these countries on a more pragmatic – and lucrative - level. Take energy: France is a world leader in nuclear power and President Sarkozy is keen to export his country’s know-how around the southern borders of the Mediterranean. Report: John LaurensonFinancing a Change in Agricultural Production European farmers need to invest in their own future survival, by completely rethinking their farming methods to stop the waste of water. The European Commission is stumping up the cash. You may not believe it when emptying your wallet at the petrol pump these days, but oil is not the only liquid resource the world has to worry about. Water is becoming increasingly precious. There are even those who believe the wars of the 21st century may be fought over water. Now scientists are looking at ways to save water, especially in Europe where farming takes up 60 per cent of water extracted from river basins. And increased water shortages cause a loss of agricultural production, pushing up food and energy prices across the world. Report: Nina-Marie PottsBuilding an Airport City How Frankfurt Airport plans to become one of the world's leading business hubs. Seven hundred planes land every day at Frankfurt International Airport, that’s a touch down or lift off every two minutes. And as the new Airbus 380 brings 500 passengers at a time, Frankfurt is expanding its capacity to serve even more people. This expansion is being overseen by Fraport AG, which manages what it calls Frankfurt Airport City. And this is not only now the most populous workplace in Germany, Fraport is also touching down on other continents, with ventures in Peru, India and China. Report: Meagan Zeune
