When foster youth turn 18, they "age out" or are "emancipated" from the foster care system. About 24,000 "age out" every year. What happens when they leave? Do they get help moving onto school or work – or are they on their own? Today, we take a look at the system in Washington. Also, what happens years down the road? Foster care alumni join us to discuss the stigma of growing up as foster kids, and how they connect with each other now. Share your experiences by writing to weekday@kuow.org or call 1–800–289–KUOW during the show.
