Kenya's future in ecotourism
As increasing numbers of people tune in to the urgent need for environmental protection, ecotourism is emerging as a successful business model in Kenya. Last month the luxurious Shompole Lodge, set in southern Kenya near the Tanzanian border, received the UNDP Equator Prize for its role in the fight against rural poverty. Over the last seven years Shompole has successfully repopulated the region's wildlife while bringing over half a million dollars to the local community.
