Don't forget to check out this weeks, 'theworkout'.
'theworkout' is a downloadable .pdf file that can be saved and then printed out for those who would like a structured routine to go with our weekly mix of music, and will be found at the bottom of each weeks show notes.
theworkout' comes with a Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) Scale to be used to determine the level of exertion to workout to. If you are using a heart rate (HR) monitor you can personalize this form by recording the ranges of your beats per minute (BPM) in the space provided.
It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.
Getting the warm up going this week is UK based John Brown's Body with their take on reggae music which they have dubbed progressive-reggae with a nod to such great UK reagge artists as Steel Pulse, Aswad, Reggae Regular, Misty in Roots, Mikey Dread, Dennis Bovell and Linton Kwesi Johnson as we this groove into the beat and vibe created by Los Angeles based DJ Rap who teams up with fellow American, Tampa Bay based DJ MikeID.
Muevate shifts the gears to crank things up with their high-energy percussion, colorful rhythms, and searing horns combined with the intoxicating vocal performances by Diana Lee and Gary Romero before we do a rare double play with another great track off of the latest release by John Brown's Body.
Sticking with the influences of a reagge beat is DJ Ironbelly, as he takes the listener on an intense uptempo ride of echo, skanks, 180BPM's, and heavyweight bass.
The Dandy Warhols are back with a different feel this time, instead of straight at you heavy beat, this time they shift the tempo down a notch but still have that great rhythm and vibe they are know for and even toss is a banjo into the mix with is track.
Ramping this back up is the electro-pop duo of Woodhands (Dan Werb and Paul Banwatt) whose like to live with the musical pedal pushed all the way down to the floor for a fast paced beat and grinding music to get the room bouncing.
Keeping the body moving and grooving is Barcelona's Eyptin Wholi piece of deep tech house as we stay with the house groove and a touch of disco, funk feel is long-time Detroit musician, DJ and producer Todd Osborn.
The duo of Huw Williams and Tiff Lacey come together as Rubikon offer up an great mix of funk beats and sexy vocals as we then slide into the energy laid down by Philadelphian Sean O'Neal who is the force behind his ever-evolving, kitsch-driven electro-pop outfit Flowchart.
Back to cool things down is the cool and sexy jazz of Vanessa Daou, whose introspective lyrics and signature breathy vocal style remind you of Sade and Leonard Cohen.
We close out with a pair of tracks from Norwegian Karl Endreson aka Orange Crush who use a mix of keyboards, percussion, and electronica to create an organic rhythm that mirrors nature in music.
