If this year s Billabong XXL Awards are any indication, waves aren t the only things getting bigger. The known big-wave universe is growing as well. In addition to familiar big waves such as Maverick s and Todos Santos, XXL finalists have come in from spots that weren t even known about a decade ago, like Ghost Tree in Monterey, Shipstern s Bluff in Tasmania or Playa Gris in Spain.
