Batman and Philosophy

Aug 23, 2008
Deborah Harper, President of Psychjourney, interviews Dr. Mark D. White, co-editor of Batman and Philosophy: The Dark Knight of the Soul edited by Mark D. White, Robert Arp, and William Irwin and published by Wiley. Dr. White is an associate professor in the Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy at the College of Staten Island/CUNY.  He teaches and writes in the intersection of economics, philosophy, and law, and has authored several dozen journal articles and book chapters in these areas. His other edited books include Economics and the Mind (with Barbara Montero, Routledge, 2007), Theoretical Foundations of Law and Economics (Cambridge, 2009), and The Thief of Time: Philosophical Essays on Procrastination (with Chrisoula Andreou, Oxford, in preparation).  Dr. White is also heavily involved in the Blackwell Pop Culture and Philosophy series from Wiley-Blackwell. In addition to co-editing Batman and Philosophy, he has also edited Watchmen and Philosophy (coming in 2009), and is currently working on Iron Man and Philosophy (coming in 2010). He has also written chapters for many other books in the series, including ones on Metallica, South Park, Family Guy, The Office, and the X-Men.  As you can probably tell, he is also an avid comic book fan, and he blogs occasionally on comics and philosophy at comicsprof.blogspot.com.
