Show Notes
0:00 Greetings and welcome to the show. Today we’re talking to Bob Prosen about his book, “Kiss Theory Goodbye-5 Proven Ways to Get Extraordinary Results”. This show is dedicated to John Locke... basically the deal is pick a philosophy, a book, a guru and stick to it. It’s those working solely on their own gut and instinct that made him nervous.. has much to do with why I do this show. I don’t think there’s any one book and thus we offer a smorgasboard of choices.
Yes that does lead to my new e-book, although that wasn’t the idea when I started that riff. Check out The 4 Disciplines of Highly Effective, Leadership Exhibiting, Project Nailing, Cheese Moving Managers.
3:50 A quote from John Locke- reading is only part of the deal, you have to think about it and act.
4:36 Welcome Bob Prosen. The trouble with business books is you have to translate the book into your space and culture. We all need a little kick in the butt.
7:29 There are 5 habits that get in the way of managers getting things done:
Not having clear directives
Lack of accountability
Rationalizing poor performance
Planning instead of action
Aversion to change
Lack of accountability seems to be the most common one. Bob outlines steps to increasing accountability in your organization. This is good stuff.
12:41 Here’s my personal struggle- rationalizing your team’s poor performance. What’s the difference between reasons and rationalization?\
16:04 How do we focus on execution? You need good goals from your boss so you can hold others accountable.
20:00 Warning, we are about to say nice things about the sales force. Creative tension is normal.. but why do we hate the sales people? Yes they’re spoiled, but they are also key to every successful business so peaceful co-existence is necessary.
24:45 What resources does Bob like these days?
Guy Kawasaki
Marketing Sherpa
Nettie Hartsocks’ blog
Patrick Lencioni’s books…. Death by Meeting and his new book 3 Signs of a Miserable Job . UPDATE… Pat will be a guest in episode 111.
