Go Open, Episode 1
The Sunday Long Video
Wonderful "street-level" show designed to entertain as well as inform about free and open source software (FOSS). They begin with a very entertaining look at how open source operating systems such as Linux and open source animation software have already conquered Hollywood. You'll see how open source platforms were used on some of the best and most popular movies.
The show's host is quite a wit, which makes the geekery a little easier to take, if you're not much of a geek. So if you're not much of geek, should you care about this stuff? Chances are pretty darn good the computer you're using right now to read these words and watch this video is running the Microsoft Windows operating system in some form. Ever had problems with it? Ever get sick of the restrictions and the costs? Yeah, me too.
So maybe this is worth your time and maybe it will be worth it for you to consider chucking old M$ for something better and far less costly. The show has only 13 episodes, and as a project, it's completed, but I think it's still a valuable educational tool. If anything, the information and, more importantly, the ideas of this are even more prescient now than they were last year when this was made.
