2009 Juneteenth Essay Competition Winner

Sidney Washington from Shoreline Christian School (in Austin TX) placed 1st in the elementary school age class of the 2009 Juneteenth Essay Competition, the first one sponsored by the Greater East Austin Youth Association. 46 central Texas students wrote essays in answer to this year's question, "Why should Texans celebrate Juneteenth?"
