Francisco Bay Area since 1985, and he offers a fresh take on jazz flute with his original compositions and creative arrangements of old jazz standards. On this night, he was celebrating the release of his latest CD titled Flute Vibes, which has been getting radio play and rose as high as #14 on the JazzWeek Radio Charts in February of this year. I first met Gerald at the Palidrome gig I recorded a while back (Palindrome’s Graham Bruce played on Gerald’s latest CD). He was enjoying the music as an audience member, and after the last set ended, asked me about my recording rig. Ever since then, we’ve been trying to meet up again, but it wasn’t until now that we managed to make it happen. This night, he was accompanied by the accomplished jazz musicians Jason Martineau on piano, Ed Williams on stand-up bass, and Niels Myrner on drums.
