Here's what we do in Brighton to celebrate the solstice. This event is called Burning the Clocks. Groups make paper lanterns and walk them down to the seafront where they are burnt in a great big firey inferno. Fire. FIRE!!! Fuck yeah!!! I was with the University of Brighton 'team' (it's where I work). Our take on the theme of 'The Tower of Babel' were some babel fish and a giant ear. Not everyone got it, but you could watch the faces of the ones that did as recognition spread across their face. I was carrying the battery pack for the giant ear. I was getting ready to break open the duck I had defrosted. The plan was Crispy Duck with Applesauce (homemade of course), and rice with Pineapple YUM YUM YUM! But Ryan started taking out the electric skillet, and the eggs.. I was all "What are you doing!" and then original idea he says "I want to make ham, cheese, and cranberry omelets?" SO I let him make the omelets for dinner and tossed the defrosted duck into the fridge for the next night.The omelets were AWSOME! Ryan is such a good cook. I was very apprehensive about putting dried cranberries in a ham and cheese omelet but they rehydrated when cooking and were GREAT!
